On Tuesday, January 22, Immaculate Conception Parish in Elmhurst will host an Evening of Prayer for the Protection of the Unborn and for an end to Human Trafficking. January 22 is the 46th anniversary of the Roe v Wade Supreme Court Abortion Case, and January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month with January 11 being National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The schedule is as follows:
6:30 p.m.: Pro-Life Rosary (Church)
7:00 p.m.: Sacrifice of the Holy Mass (Church)
8:00 – 9:30 p.m.: Human Trafficking: The Invisible Chains for Today (Agnesian Room/ located in Rectory)
Sister Jean M. Okroi, IBVM, is an educator and a presenter on Human Trafficking. Her passion is to raise awareness of this evil. In the past sixteen years, she has presented this new form of slavery to a variety of age groups. She will open your eyes to what could be happening in your neighborhood or to what you would rather ignore.
Human Trafficking is the most insidious and horrific crime of our age. Those caught in its web by force, fraud or coercion are put into commercial sex and/or forced labor for one reason – GREED. It generates $150 billion worldwide annually. Trafficking of humans is the second largest criminal industry in the world and is the fastest growing industry exceeded only by the drug trade. This crime has gone unnoticed in big cities and small towns. And, we need to do something about it!
