Fr. Michael Caruso, SJ, is president of St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. He has served as the chair of the Department of Educational Leadership at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and was an associate professor of education with an emphasis in Catholic administration. He has written on Catholic school leadership, spirituality in education and the historic foundations of Catholic education and has worked extensively in forming Catholic elementary and high school teachers and administrators in the Diocese of Orange and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, one of the most diverse Catholic school systems in the U.S.

Fr. Caruso earned his B.A. from Conception Seminary College in Missouri and his M.Div./S.T.B. from St. Mary of the Lake University in Mundelein, IL. He was ordained for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph in Missouri and later entered the Jesuits. Subsequently, he earned his Doctorate [Ed.D.] from the University of San Francisco at the Institute of Catholic Educational Leadership.

Fr. Caruso taught at both DeSmet Jesuit High School in St. Louis and Regis Jesuit High School in Denver. He also has worked in campus ministry at Rockhurst Jesuit University in Kansas City.  He has published numerous articles on Catholic education in the United States as well as a book:  When the Sisters Said Farewell:  The Transition of Leadership in Catholic Elementary Schools.  In 2017 he delivered the Tre Ore reflections for the Seven Last Words of Christ at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.
