St. Mary Immaculate School Teacher Receives Grant to Travel to Kansas

Renee Streicher, a 4th-grade teacher at St. Mary Immaculate School in Plainfield, has recently been awarded a grant from the prestigious National Endowment of Humanities in Washington, D.C.  Grant recipients are chosen from teachers across the nation and are invited to attend a program entitled: “Native American and African American Education in Kansas.”

Mrs. Streicher, who has taught at St. Mary’s school for the past 12 years, will travel to the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, this July for the week-long program.  While there, she will visit and learn about historic sites, such as Shawnee Indian Mission, Haskell Institute, and the Brown vs. Board of Education National Historic Site.  These experiences combined with meetings and lectures by nationally renowned scholars will provide Mrs. Streicher with a rich learning experience to bring back to her classroom.
