St. Patrick’ Church (710 West Marion St. in Joliet) is sponsoring a series of events in the next several weeks. Here they are:
— A Coat and Toy Drive for the Poor on Dec. 11. All toys or coats (new or gently used) will benefit the poor that utilize the El Centro Vilaseca Center on the east side of town. Donations can be brought to the church or the office during the week.
— All-Day Confessions during the vigil of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 11 from 2 p.m. until midnight. Adoration will also take place at this time.
— Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrations all day on Dec. 12, starting with the traditional “Las Mananitas” Mass with mariachis (starting at 5 a.m.), noon-time rosary and prayer, and an evening liturgy, followed by dancing and social in the gymnasium, starting at 7 p.m.
A Las Posadas Celebration on Dec. 18 in the church, starting at 6 p.m. Children dressed as Mary and Joseph will process from inn (or posada) to inn, seeking a home for the baby Jesus. The evening will conclude with pan dulce, Mexican hot chocolate and piñatas.
