Eileen Backman, second grade teacher at St. John the Baptist School in Winfield, was recently honored with the Core Values Teaching Award from the diocese. Designed to recognize excellence in teaching, the criteria for this award includes the ability to infuse faith into all subject areas, the combination of a robust curriculum with a nurturing environment, and a spirit of collaboration. The diocese chose six winners, two from each category of elementary, junior high, and specials. Additionally, candidates must be nominated by their peers, not a pastor or principal.
Additionally, Backman was selected and sponsored to attend the 2016 Excellence in Teaching Conference at Notre Dame.
