A Mass celebrating “first responders” took place on Sept. 14 at Holy Ghost Parish in Wood Dale. Eleven police officers came to the church that day. (The firefighters had a training  and were not able to attend.) Students from the Holy Ghost School gave the officers a thank you card. An early childhood student, dressed as a police officer, then handed each officer a holy card. The student said he was “excited and a little nervous” to do this and that he “wants to be a policeman when he grows up.” The entire congregation and Father John Hornicak, the pastor of the parish, and the congregation in attendance, also offered a blessing to the first responders.
