Barbara Klatt of Villa Park has been named the 2016 Woman of the Year by St. Alexander Parish Council of Catholic Women. She and Joyce Splan, 2015-16 CCW president, will be honored at a Mass celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Siegel at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet on April 16, along with their counterparts from throughout the parishes of the Diocese of Joliet.
The theme of the Mass, and the reception to follow is “Holy Mary, Mother of Mercy.”
Barb was chosen for her many volunteer commitments to St. Alexander parish, among the most recent being the Casserole Ministry. Barb and her team collect and deliver 50-60 casseroles each month (which are prepared and donated by St Alexander’s parishioners) to Franciscan Outreach in Chicago. To date, this parish has prepared more than 1,000 casseroles for the hungry, along with other items needed by the program. Barb and her co-coordinator, Lisa Fairbank, oversee the parish’s Project Gabriel program, which provides spiritual, emotional and financial support to young mothers who have chosen life for their babies. She has also brought homemade bakeries to the CCW bake sale, and served on/with the Parish Council, the Godparent Program, Engaged Couple Program, First Friday Holy Hour, Christian Service Commission, Bereavement, and Minister to the Homebound.
