St. Pius X Parish Prepares for Annual Fall Fest

St. Pius X Parish in Lombard is once again preparing for it’s annual Fall Fest celebration. The fest is in its fourth year at St. Pius and has become widely popular with parishioners and community members alike.

“Every ministry of the parish takes part in the planning of the event.,” said John Matyasik, business manager at St. Pius. “Having all of our ministries coming together for one common goal each year is extremely rewarding.”

Matyasik explained that planning and volunteering allows members of the parish, who might otherwise not know each other, meet and work together for the success of the fest.

The four-day celebration is open to the public and kicks off on Friday, September 19, with a Texas Hold’em Night in the Parish Social Center. On September 20, the parish will host a County Western Line Dancing Party featuring line dancing lessons by Chicago’s own, Country Pat. They will also be featuring an open bar and will have Texas style soups and country style pumpkin pie on hand for hungry line dancers.

What has grown to be a very popular tradition over the years at St. Pius is their Sunday morning Polka Mass, held outside in the fresh, fall air. This year’s Mass will be held on September 21 at 10:30 a.m. Music during the Mass is always provided by a live polka band.

“My kids look forward to this Mass every year,” said Barbara Dawson, parishioner. “The music is very fun and uplifting. Anyone who has not been to a Catholic Polka Mass should try to go at least once in their lifetime.”

The Polka Mass is always followed by a huge pig roast feast. School parents start early in the evening on the Saturday before the big day, preparing the meal. “It’s an all-night commitment,” said Matyasik. “We are very lucky to have dedicated volunteers to see it through.” And, no Fall Fest is complete without a raffle. This year’s raffle features great prizes, including a 7 Day/6 Nigh stay at High Point World Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. Raffle tickets are sold on the day of the event and after all Masses held at St. Pius X Parish.

The Fall Fest concludes with a Bears and Bear night held on Monday, September 22, at 7 p.m.   The evening is sponsored by the St. Pius X Mens’ Club and will feature the Monday Night Football game, the Bears verses the Jets.
