Today, Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop R. Daniel Conlon.
Last December, our bishop started a much-needed medical leave. Bishop Conlon said, “The leave of absence the Holy Father granted me at the beginning of this year was a huge blessing. I experienced personal healing and was able to recognize that, at 71, I am no longer able to carry the burden of leadership of a large diocese.”
We thank God for the many blessings Bishop Conlon has bestowed on our diocese, and we wish him well in his retirement. He hopes to continue to live in the diocese and minister as his health allows.
Bishop Richard Pates will continue to function as the apostolic administrator for our diocese. Read the full press release here: http://dioceseofjoliet.org/communications/newsdetail.php?id=132
